Stroller Fit combines exercise, nursery rhymes

TAMPA - Don't let their pink tank tops or cute workout music fool you. When they exercise, the mothers of Stroller Fit mean business. Although a big part of their workout routine does include nursery rhymes.

Melissandra James is one of the moms working out with Stroller Fit. She says the key to a happy baby while trying to work out is "nursery rhymes, nursery rhymes, nursery rhymes."

It's a way to burn more calories while keeping their pint-size workout partners from pitching a fit.

Trista Pavelski is the owner and instructor of Stroller Fit. She says, "We do nursery rhymes, we do the alphabet, do numbers, we do Spanish, Russian, English."

Stroller Fit allows Tampa moms to work out with baby.

"I was in the hospital on best rest with my daughter for four months and was like, 'oh my gosh'," Trista says.

Trista couldn't wait to get back in shape after having her daughter, but wanted to keep her close by. With Stroller Fit, "we get to do it together," she says.

And other new moms are jumping on the idea.

Bethany Navida has a 7-month-old. She says she got involved "just to get more fit and have more fun with my baby."

The group starts with a warm-up, then cardio resistance, and finish with core work.

"It's a bonding experience and you meet other mothers and have things in commom," Melissandra says.

And like most moms, these ladies are creative. They use everything as fitness equipment, from the stroller to the baby.

"My son goes home and is like one, two, three and is pretending to do push-ups and pull-ups," says Melissandra.

The activities are also a way of getting children thinking about the importance of staying in shape at a young age.

"Health is not a chore," Trista says. "Fitness is not a bad thing. It's good and healthy and it's a good way to hang out together."

And what better way to feel the burn...than while rehearsing your child's favorite nursery rhymes.
