PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A pedestrian was hit by an SUV and killed when he tried to cross Park Boulevard early Sunday morning.
Police say 67-year-old Ronald Segars, of St. Petersburg, appeared to have been walking across Park Boulevard near the intersection at 52nd Street around 12:45 a.m. when he was struck by a Ford Escape SUV. Officers say he suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital.
According to police, the driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Joanne Luce, immediately pulled off the road and into a parking lot after the crash. Luce did not suffer any injuries.
Witnesses called police and tried to help Segars until emergency personnel arrived.
The incident shut down part of Park Boulevard for more than two hours.
Traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash.
