LAND O'LAKES - A man was bitten by an alligator that had parked itself under his car early Sunday morning.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says Joseph Cannistra, 38, saw something lying under his car and reached for it, thinking it was his dog. Cannistra instead found a 5-foot alligator that bit him on both hands.

Officers say Cannistra was treated at University Community Hospital and released with stitches in both hands.

FWC officers captured the alligator, which was injured during the incident, and said it will be euthanized.
