LAKELAND, Fla. - The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 28-year-old Nicky Tolzmann, suspected of stabbing his girlfriend's father to death, has been taken into custody near Dawson Springs, Ky.

Detectives believe Gene Hockey, 59, tried to intervene in a domestic dispute between his daughter Leah, 23, and Tolzmann, her live-in boyfriend, early Friday morning in Lakeland. Deputies said Tolzmann stabbed Hockey to death during the argument and took off with his two pit bulls in Hockey's car.

Deputies say Tolzmann was arrested at approximately 11:00 p.m. Friday after a task force of officers with the Kentucky State Police, Dawson Springs Police Department, and Deputy U.S. Marshals set up surveillance around Tolzmann's father's residence near Dawson Springs.

Tolzmann was spotted driving Gene Hockey's vehicle, a 1993 Honda Accord. Police followed the vehicle for approximately two miles and then disabled the car by flattening the tires.

Police say a brief stand-off occurred when Tolzmann put a gun to his head, but officers were able to talk him into surrendering without further incident.

According to deputies, Tolzmann was taken to Hopkins County Jail in Madisonville, Ky., where he is being held without bond and facing numerous charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing police by motor vehicle, and operating on a suspended or revoked license.

Tolzmann is also being held on an arrest warrant from Polk County for 1st degree murder.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office are initiating extradition procedures to have Tolzmann brought to Polk County.
