TAMPA - We all know kids have some pretty creative minds, but only a select few actually manage to put their crazy ideas into practice.

Like most inventions, the concept of this one is simple: Replacing an ordinary swing with a swivel and a trapeze bar.

"It does 360's in the air while swinging. It's awesome," said Justin Quinn, an 8-year-old boy who came up with the idea and named it Twistified.

"What the Twistified is, is an attachment, so it's this piece up," said Brian Quinn, Justin's father, pointing to the swivel and trapeze bar attached to the swing. "What it does is, a normal swing bolts up here [at the top of the swingset], so you take the normal swing bolts and put them in the Twistified bar."

Justin came up with the idea two years ago for a school assignment.

"We had to make an invention and then we had a month to do it. And we had so many problems that we just came up with a swing," said Justin.

The idea was submitted to a national competition, Toys "R" Us' Invention Dimension Challenge. Justin came in second against thousands of entries.

More importantly, it solved a problem Justin had been having.

Brian Quinn described how Justin would get twisted in his swing when horsing around with his big brother, leaving Justin's hands scraped from getting caught in the swing's chain.

With that solved, the Quinns have another issue: Making the kids share.

"Now it's something when the kids come out, one of them always enjoys playing on that ...  and in the neighborhood they're always fighting over who gets the twisted swings," Brian said.

Twistified is not available in stores. For more information, go to http://twistifiedswing.com/
