Manatee wounded by boat propeller

TAMPA - A wounded Manatee rescued from the Little Manatee River in Hillsborough County, is being treated at the Lowry Park Zoo.

Deputies in the sheriff's marine unit spotted the female manatee Thursday, and noticed the sea cow had been cut by a boat propeller.

The deputies contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's manatee rescue team, which captured the 740 pound mammal, the sheriff's office said, and transported her to Lowry Park's manatee hospital.

The manatee's condition has not been released
