CARROLLWOOD - What started out as a nice evening of football and cheerleading on a Carrolwood soccer field turned into a night few on that field will forget.
"The transformer just exploded and it was like there were sparks going everywhere. It sounded like a gun shot," said Michelle Stoyan.
She didn't hear a gunshot -- she heard 16-year-old Avi Davidson coming into contact with power lines.
"All of a sudden I see this guy falling and he hit the ground like a thud,” she said. “It was very scary."
Davidson was taking pictures. Apparently he climbed a power pole to get a better angle. His effort to improve his shot comes as no surprise to Nelson Torres, Davidson's teacher at Blake High School.
"He was great. He put in, not only the time, but also the time and dedication it takes to polish those skills and bring it to the next level," Torres explained.
A spokesman for the family says Davidson has multiple broken bones and burns over half his body. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital Thursday night in critical condition.
"We're devastated because he was part of the team. Part of the family and we want to send out thoughts and prayers to his family at this time," Torres said.
As Davidson struggles to recover, those who saw him fall are struggling to erase the image from their minds.
"All I know is it was a horrible sight to see," Stoyan said. "My heart goes out to his family."
