Tampa officer injured in Cozumel crash

TAMPA - A Tampa police officer is in critical condition after a car accident while she was on vacation in Cozumel, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officer Andrea Law, 36, was thrown from the vehicle Wednesday afternoon and suffered a torn liver, officials said.

She was flown back Tampa General Hospital for surgery Thursday morning and is in the intensive care unit.

"She's very critical, she's very critical. And the next few days are going to tell," TPD Chief Jane Castor said. "But she's young, she's very strong, she's very healthy. And people survive these kinds of injuries."

Law has been with the department for two years. She's currently a school resource officer at Stewart Middle School.
