Two young men accused of suffocating and killing a man in his apartment last week are scheduled to make their first appearances this morning.
Christopher Cox, 22, and Amer Ejak, 16, are charged with first degree murder.
Cox and Ejak put a plastic bag over Thomas Johannesen's head and a belt around his neck, Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives said. After Johannesen, 34, died, the suspects shoved his body in the closet.
Cox and Ejak attempted to conceal the body by placing items over it, and then stole the victim's cell phone, house keys and his Adidas sneakers before leaving the apartment on Gilligans Way, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives said Cox and Ejak later asked two people if they'd ever seen a dead body, and then took them to Johannesen's apartment and showed them.
One of the witnesses told someone else, who then called deputies.
Detectives arrested Cox and Ejak Sunday afternoon.
Investigators said it's unclear how they knew the victim.
