TAMPA - Now you can get your clothes, your shoes, and even your tattoo all in the same place.
Shoppers at Westfield Citrus Park have been buzzing about a new store. FAT Ink, which stands for Fashion Art Tattoo, opened up three weeks ago.
"It's in a mall now. It's a little mindboggling, actually. Shows how mainstream it's become," observed Joe O'Sullivan, who stopped in and was amazed at what he saw.
While FOX 13 was there, every chair was full, with more people waiting. Owner Brad Grandorff said they have 150 to 200 walk-in's a day.
Some of those are people who just want to watch, like Richard Delbono, who stopped in with his wife and two kids.
"The tattoo shop in the mall kind of shocked me. I'm like, a tattoo shop in the mall, they're usually on the corner or behind places. I wanted to check it out and I'm thoroughly impressed with it."
Grandorff said nearby stores have reported higher traffic in their stores.
"Right now, it's the talk of the mall. We've heard from other retailers next to us, they made their numbers this month. Whether it's from us or not, it's hard to say. But they are getting a lot more traffic down at this side of the mall now that we're here," explained Grandorff.
Even the Waldenbooks store next door has a display of tattoo books. They hope to make a few extra dollars on those coming for their body art.
Amanda Greenleaf sat for nearly two hours, getting her latest body art. She believes tattoos in a mall setting is a great idea.
"I think it's awesome. You just walk down shopping and then "hey maybe I should get a tattoo." And these people are great."
Some of the tattoo artists have degrees in fine arts. One has his master's degree in art.
The owner plans to open another studio in the Westfield Brandon mall. He already owns one in South Tampa.
He said tattoos are becoming more mainstream. The negative stigma surrounding them is not as bad as it used to be -- he sees families and parents with their teens, coming in to take a look.
