TAMPA - While detectives say they’re still a long way from identifying the person whose remains were found along I-75 earlier this week, they now say the bones belong to a female.
Officers with the Tampa Police Department said Thursday morning that they have collected a complete female skeleton. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner has teamed up with an anthropology professor from the University of South Florida to begin reconstructing the skeleton.
They say it could take weeks or even months to figure out how old the person was, their race, and identity. They also say it will take a while to determine when and how the person died.
The human remains were found by a motorist who came across them while he was waiting for a tow truck. The bones were found along I-75 just north of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
