TAMPA - One person has been killed in an accident on Interstate 4. It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the U.S. 301 exit in Hillsborough County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved two semi trucks. Troopers say a wheel on one of the trucks broke loose and rolled into the path of the second truck. That semi hit the tire, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into a concrete barrier wall and a pillar for the overpass to U.S. 301.
The driver of the truck that crashed into the wall died in the accident. He was later identified by troopers as William Morales of Tampa.
The other driver was not hurt.
Around 7 a.m., troopers reopened all lanes of westbound I-4. However, there were still major delays on the interstate. Traffic was backed up past the I-75 interchange.
It may be a good idea to avoid I-4 all together this morning by using U.S. 92.
