TAMPA - It's a face that few will soon forget – Farrah Fawcett's dazzling smile and perfectly feathered hair catapulted her into stardom in the 70s, making her one of the biggest sex symbols of the decade.
Her stint on the hit show Charlie's Angels only lasted a year, but it was enough to make her a household name. Less than a year later, perhaps the most famous image of Fawcett emerged, one that hangs on walls from Hollywood, California to Tampa, Florida.
"This is an original Farrah poster from, I believe it was 1977," offers Craig Greabell inside his shop as he gestures towards the wall.
Inside Greabell's vintage shop on South Howard is a small tribute to the late Fawcett. He was just 13 when the iconic poster first came out. It's since broken records in sales and probably still hangs on many walls, sparking nostalgia for millions.
"They went to bed with Farrah in their room for sure yeah. It totally was, maybe their first girlfriend in a way," adds Greabell.
Since the 70's Fawcett's likeness has been plastered on everything; mugs, books, magnets, even an array of cozies -- but nothing says Farrah Fawcett like that hair.
"It lives on. It's still one of the top ten copied haircuts of the day," according to Elaine, a master stylist at Studio Cabello in Tampa.
To this day, Elaine says, people still ask for a version of Fawcett's famous do. Even she, as a young girl spent hours in front of a mirror trying to recreate the look.
"We'll remember as beautiful and having this gorgeous main of hair," added Elaine.
Fawcett fan Cathy Currier sported her feathered hair for almost a decade before she moved on.
"She was beautiful, independent, she had a unique look to her," explained Currier.
Her hairdo may be long gone, but for Currier and millions of other fans, the legacy of Farrah Fawcett will live on; even in her last days, she is still remembered as that angel with the dazzling smile.
