TAMPA - An orphaned, 2-month-old river otter has found a home at The Florida Aquarium.

It got there after a family spotted it alone in the wild, and took it to their vet, who called the Aquarium.

Biologists there determined that she was only a few weeks old, and was starving.

"In nature, otter's tails are usually very wide, very flay and very thick. Her tail was very thin, so from that we determined that she had probably been lacking in food," said biologist Susan Gerros.

They bottle fed her for about two weeks, and her health improved. Now Gerros says they are keeping an eye on her to figure out if she can be released back into the wild.

They also have a warning—if you see an otter in the wild, they look cute and cuddly, but they have sharp teeth and will aggressively defend themselves, so it's best not to approach one.
