TAMPA - The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office calls them the worst of the worst in the county, and now they have their own website.
Sheriff David Gee even makes a cameo appearance urging users to point, click and get involved.
"We need your help putting fugitives where they belong," Gee says.
The website is called the "
Sheriff's Cell Block Shakedown
." Behind each jailhouse door is one of the sheriffs ten most
wanted suspects.
The interactive website was launched in early December and it
didn't take long for a tipster to give detectives quite a gift just
in time for Christmas, says Deputy Larry McKinnon.
"I'm proud to say in just the first three weeks we've hit one of our top ten most wanted: a violent felon that was wanted on two counts of armed robbery, " McKinnon said.
The anonymous caller had seen John Andrew Morrison on the most wanted website and later spotted him in a Plant City neighborhood. The information was handed over to detectives, and it wasn't long before deputies were on his trail.
"We caught him throwing down a .32 caliber revolver, and caught him after a quick foot chase," McKinnon said.
The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office web team came up with the cell
block concept at no expense to the taxpayer. The hope is to get as
many eyes as possible on the most dangerous fugitives in town that
so far have ducked police radar.
