TAMPA - The owner of a Tampa-area mobile home park where a child died in an uncapped septic tank has been ordered to get a migrant labor camp permit.
Brian Miller, environmental health administrator with the Hillsborough County Health Department, said Wednesday the permit would allow inspectors to check on the conditions at the Ruskin park more frequently and thoroughly.
But Miller said he didn't know if increased inspections would have found the uncapped septic tank that claimed the life of 2-year-old Luis Martinez. His body was found Saturday in the tank near the mobile home where he lived with his family.
Miller said the park's manager is cooperating. Many of the
park's residents, including Luis' father, are migrant fruit
pickers.
