VALRICO - Authorities resumed their search Saturday morning for a 2-year-old boy missing from the Valrico area.
Luis Martinez was reported missing by his parents around 3:30 p.m. Friday. So far, deputies say there has been no sign of the child.
Martinez was last seen at a neighbor's home on Silver Lane, south of State Road 60 and off Mulrennan Road. Luis was wearing a blue and white striped shirt and red pants when he disappeared.
Dozens of Hillsborough deputies and volunteers continued the search at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, spreading throughout the neighborhood where Luis went missing.
The Sheriff's Office began a large-scale search on Friday afternoon, deploying K9 teams, horses, and a helicopter to search the area, and all of those resources were again being used Saturday.
"We're still in a massive search for Luis," Col. Greg Brown of the Sheriff's Office said Saturday morning. "We don't have any more leads than we did last night. It could have been a variety of things that happened to him."
Deputies say agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are also on scene to conduct interviews and searches.
Col. Brown said investigators used a database to locate sexual offenders in a 5-mile radius of the neighborhood where Martinez went missing. Deputies and FDLE agents have located all but about 20 of the more than 100 offenders they identified. Col. Brown said this is standard procedure when children go missing.
