Documents detail troubled relationship

TAMPA - Court documents show that Audrey Mabrey filed a domestic violence report less than a month before a Tuesday incident that left her with burns over 80 percent of her body.

Her husband, Christopher Hanney, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after investigators say he poured lighter fluid on Mabrey, 26, and set her on fire.

The domestic violence report was filed on October 20. In it, Mabrey said Hanney threw her against a wall and tried to sexually assault her. The report showed Hanney, 44, denied the allegations.

According to the report, the couple came home around 11:30 p.m. on October 19th. They had been arguing because Hanney thought Mabrey had been talking to another man.

Before going to bed, Mabrey said Hanney threw her against a wall and tried to take her clothes off. She ran to the garage to call a friend for help, packed her things and her children, and slept at a friend's house.

Mabrey told investigators she and Hanney were separated, with one sleeping on the couch, and another in a bedroom.

Then on October 21st, she filed a request that the state not prosecute Hanney, saying she "was not physically harmed," and the incident was a "misunderstanding."

Less than a month later, investigators say, Hanney poured a flammable liquid on Mabrey, struck her with a hammer, and set her on fire. Mabrey then ran from the house "engulfed in flames." The report says she identified her husband as the one who injured her.

Mabrey remains in Tampa General Hospital, last listed in critical condition with burns over 80 percent of her body. Hanney is the Hillsborough County Orient Road Jail without bond.
