TAMPA - TAMPA -- Tampa police say they have arrested the man suspected of shooting two people and trying to run over a police officer outside Club Mirage early Friday morning.
According to officers, Eugene Scurry, 27, showed up at Brandon Regional Hospital later Friday morning with a gunshot wound to his right arm. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the hospital after reports of Scurry acting combative and uncooperative.
The responding deputy recognized Scurry from the report police put out after the shooting at Club Mirage. Detectives were called to the hospital and charged Scurry with 2 counts of aggravated battery as well as aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
Police say a fight broke out in the parking lot of Club Mirage around 3 a.m. Friday and officers on scene heard gunshots. They saw a man with a gun in his hand start to run away and get into a vehicle. One officer fired at the car. The driver then tried to run over the officer, who fired at the car a second time as it drove away.
According to detectives, Scurry was to be taken to the Hillsborough County Jail once the hospital gave him medical clearance.
Police report one of the men who was shot was hit in the stomach and is in stable condition. The other man was only grazed on the elbow by the bullet. The officer who was hit by the suspect's car suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.
Detectives say the suspect's vehicle was later found abandoned in the 1100 block of Green Street in West Tampa.
