CLEARWATER - Police say a 2-year-old boy ran into the street and was hit by an oncoming SUV, suffering serious injuries.
According to officers, the boy was standing with his mother and other children on the corner of Cleveland Street and Frederica Avenue when he left sidewalk and ran into the path of the SUV just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The child was treated by paramedics and was said to be responsive. Police say as a precaution, he was transported by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, where his injuries were said to be serious in nature.
Police say the driver of the SUV has not been charged and the accident is under investigation.
