Democrats hold Bay Area rally

TAMPA - On stage together for the first time, Tampa Bay Democrats united Saturday with a message to voters: The primary's over and the party wants you to "vote blue" across the ballot.

"Florida Democrats are unified as we saw today," said Eric Jotcoff, the event's organizer.

This rally marks a second wind in election season. 

"We're hitting the rest button, starting all over and I'm just asking everyone to please remember our local candidates as well," added voter Tishia Dunham.

Candidates for the top offices in the state joined hands with local candidates. After a win in the Democratic primary, U.S. Senate hopeful Kendrick Meek is using his momentum to back fellow Democrats in local races.

"Unity is very, very important. If anyone was to look at the Democratic ticket the statewide ticket there's a lot of experience there," said Meek. "We have mayors. We have legislators. We have individuals who have been involved in public service for a very long time now."

On stage, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Alex Sink pushed the party's commitment to the economy, jobs and education. 

"I'm going to root out the corruption and spend the taxpayers money more wisely," Sink said.

When asked if she'll focus on issues instead of negative ads, Sink said, "That's what I'm going to be doing. That's what the people of Florida deserve to hear."

Time will tell if the race for governor goes negative. Voters like Mary Keifer don't want that. 

"What do I not want to see?" Keifer said. "Those horrible TV ads bashing other people that are running. I'm sick of them, and I'm sure everybody else is, too."

There was no mudslinging at the rally where the word of the day from Democrats was unity. 

"We haven't been this unified this soon after a primary election in many, many years," Sink said. "I just feel a lot of success coming in November."
