PALMETTO - A local Little League is saying farewell to their field.
Saturday was the last day for the North River Little League teams to play on the fields at 17th Avenue and 10th Street West because the fields are being replaced by the new Palmetto Elementary School.
Kids in the league will have to take off at least one season, while a new field is built.
Oscar Vela, the Vice President of the North River Little League, is worried that at least some of those kids won't be coming back after the layoff, because they won't be playing ball in an organized arena and will just be heading outside to play in the street or at a park.
The city of Palmetto says the new ball fields will be built near Blackstone Park and the hope is to have them open by next February.
