CITY OF BOSTON TRAFFIC ADVISORY FOR SATURDAY:

Traffic congestion is expected in Boston on Saturday due to the funeral for Senator Edward M. Kennedy and drivers should expect delays. Streets in the vicinity of the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Mission Hill will be closed to traffic and parking will be restricted. Other streets in the area will be closed on a rolling basis as necessary.

From approximately 7 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2009, the following streets in Boston will be closed to traffic.

• Tremont Street, from Columbus Avenue to Huntington Avenue
• St. Alphonsus Street, from Tremont Street to Huntington Avenue
• Cornelia Court, from Smith Street to Horadan Way
• Pontiac Street, from Tremont Street to Alleghany Street
• Turquoise Way, both sides, from Smith Street to Horadan Way
• Smith Street, in its entirety
• Carmel Street, in its entirety
• Sewall Street, in its entirety
• Burney Street, in its entirety

In addition, No Stopping or Standing will be allowed at the following locations on Saturday, August 29, 2009, beginning at 12:01 AM. To accommodate the public safety plan, if necessary, law enforcement agencies may add further restrictions as late as Saturday morning. Vehicle owners are strongly encouraged to park accordingly as it will be necessary to ticket and tow vehicles parked in violation.

• Carmel Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to Delle Avenue
• Cornelia Court, both sides, from Smith Street to Horadan Way
• Pontiac Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to Alleghany Street

• Tremont Street, both sides, from Columbus Avenue to Huntington Avenue

Alternative off-street parking will be available for vehicles bearing Mission Hill Resident Parking Permits. Residents should call the Mayors 24 Hour Service at #617-635-4500 for additional information.

Motorcade Route:
From Andrews Air Force base, Senator Kennedy's motorcade will proceed to the east plaza of the US Capitol building. The motorcade will enter through the Independence Ave entrance and proceed past the Senate Chamber steps. The motorcade will then proceed to Arlington National Cemetery via Constitution Ave.

4:30PM – SENATOR KENNEDY ARRIVES AT THE CAPITOL
The Senator’s motorcade will stop at the Senate steps for a brief prayer so that Senate staff and members of the broader Senate community with whom the Senator worked can bid a final farewell.

ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY

5:30 p.m. A burial service for Senator Kennedy will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.

It is closed to the public.

Guidance Note: Senator Kennedy will be laid to rest next to President Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy at Arlington National Cemetery. The nation’s resting place for its heroes, Senator Kennedy spent more days than most at Arlington visiting the graves of his beloved brothers and paying tribute to the fallen men and women of Massachusetts who gave their lives for our country.
