Man charged in fatal hit and run

TAMPA - An 18-year-old man is charged with DUI manslaughter after police say he was behind the wheel of an SUV involved in a fatal hit and run outside a Tampa nightclub.

Tampa police arrested Alex Perez-Escalante just after 3 a.m. Sunday a few blocks away from the Palladium nightclub on North Armenia Avenue, according to jail records.

Police say he was leaving the nightclub's parking lot in an SUV when someone threw a glass at the vehicle. Perez-Escalante sped up and lost control, hitting and killing a pedestrian, according to the arrest report.

Jail records show Perez-Escalante is a Mexican national who does not have a valid driver's license. He's being held without bond on charges of dui manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash with death and driving without a license.

The victim's name has not been released.
