Surviving rip currents

The recent tropical activity in the Atlantic Ocean has stirred up rip currents all along the east coast of Florida and the U.S.

Numerous swimmers have been rescued this week off New Jersey, Maryland, and Florida; and two people died on Anna Maria Island earlier this month.

The surf is expected to get even rougher as Hurricane Earl moves closer to land.

Donovan Burns, the chief lifeguard at Clearwater Beach has some advice to heed if you get caught in a rip current.
