The Gainesville pastor at the center of a controversial Koran burning has ignited a religious firestorm. Emotions are running high and opinions are being voiced from the nation's leaders down to local Muslim leaders.
Ramzy Kilic with the Council on American-Islamic Relations here in Tampa joined Good Day Thursday morning to explain the significance of burning the Koran and whether this is a "teachable moment" for those who may not have a strong understanding of the Muslim religion.
Wednesday, CAIR joined with the American Civil Liberties Union to voice their opinions and to release a series of PSAs featuring 9-11 first responders who also happened to be Muslim.

Florida governor Charlie Crist released a statement Wednesday evening, saying that he would be monitoring the event closely to ensure that all Floridians were safe.
"I strongly agree with General Petraeus and others who warn that burning Qurans as a form of protest on September 11th puts our fighting men and women overseas in grave danger," Crist's statement read. "In addition to being offensive, the Gainesville protest puts at risk those brave Americans who are fighting abroad for the freedoms and values that we believe in as Americans."
