John joined the FOX 13 team in September of 1993.

John was born in the coal-mining town of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He studied journalism, English and drama at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

He has anchored primetime newscasts on CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliate stations in Richmond, Norfolk, St. Louis, Charlotte, and St. Petersburg. Throughout his career, John has covered national and international events from Panama, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Havana, Haiti, Normandy, and Moscow.

John has won three Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and numerous awards from SPJ and the Associated Press, as well as many civic and charitable organizations.

John is a popular emcee, narrator, lecturer, and speaker. He is equally at home in front of a symphony orchestra. He is married to a professional singer, and Voice Coach, Mary K. Wilson. They often perform with symphony orchestras.

They have three sons -- Mark works with his Dad as a FOX 13 anchor/reporter. Paul has his own advertising company and is also a singer. And Patrick is the Tony-, Emmy-, and Golden Globe-nominated award-winning actor and singer who has starred and co-starred on Broadway and off in more than 25 feature films and shows.
