MIAMI (AP) - A man already imprisoned for real estate fraud has been charged in Florida with a multi-million dollar investment scam involving three former Miami Heat players and the team itself. A grand jury indictment charges that Haider Zafar ripped off players Mike Miller, James Jones and Rashard Lewis in 2013.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars center Mike Brewster went from the starter to the street in a matter of weeks. The Jaguars waived Brewster, third-string quarterback Ricky Stanzi and others yesterday - one day before the NFL's deadline for reducing rosters to 53 players.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released veteran offensive lineman Jamon Meredith and waived 11 other players to begin the task of trimming the roster to the 53-man regular season limit. The moves yesterday have the squad at 63. Coach Lovie Smith has to cut 10 more by 4 p.m. today.
ATLANTA (AP) - Tony Stewart says the death of Kevin Ward Jr. will "affect my life forever" as he returned to the track for the first time since his car struck and killed the fellow driver during a sprint-car race in New York. Stewart spoke yesterday for the first time since Ward died at an Aug. 9 dirt-track event.
